Questions

Questions people ask first

Twelve answers, in the order people tend to ask.

Do you take my insurance?

It depends on the plan. Some PPO plans we bill ourselves; for others we give you a receipt to send in. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. Read how fees work, then write to us and we will check your benefits before your first session.

What is a superbill and how do I use it?

A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt with the dates and kind of session, which you send to your plan if it may reimburse out-of-network care. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything, and we cannot promise that it will.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

How much does it cost, and how do fees work?

Your fee depends on how you pay. We give you the number in writing before you begin. How fees work explains insurance, self-pay, receipts and the estimate.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes, where your plan allows it for counseling.

What happens in the first session?

Conversation. We explain how we work and the limits of confidentiality, and you tell us as much as you want. Nothing is asked of you that you are not ready for.

How often, and for how long?

Sessions are 50 minutes, 80 for partners and couples. How often is something you and your clinician set together; we do not promise a number of sessions.

Are you licensed where I live?

Both clinicians are licensed in Florida. We see people in the office in Jacksonville, and by video for anyone who is in Florida at the time of the session.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. Veterans can press 1 after dialing, or text 838255. In an emergency, call 911. Our messages are not monitored around the clock.

What is private, and what are the limits?

What you tell us stays here, apart from three limits: a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, abuse of a child or an older adult, and a court order. We explain each one before you say anything.

Will my department, unit or command know?

No. We do not contact your employer, and we do not do fitness-for-duty evaluations. We send no notes to anyone unless you ask us to in writing.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hours' notice to change or cancel a session. A later change may be charged, up to the cost of the session, and we say so in writing before you begin.

Another question?
