Before you book
Your first sessions, and what they are not
Many people wait because they expect to be asked for the worst day first. That is not how we begin.
Not a retelling
You do not have to tell the story of your worst call, tour or night. We start with sleep, work, home and what you would like to be different.
Not a diagnosis
We ask questions to learn what you carry and what helps. A label is not required before we begin.
Not a report
Sessions are private, apart from the limits the law sets, which we explain before you say anything. We do not send notes to your department or command.
Not a fitness-for-duty exam
We do not do evaluations for your employer or your unit. We are on your side of the table, and only yours.
Not EMDR yet
Memory work comes later, if at all. First we learn each other and the ways you steady yourself.
Not a promise to continue
After a few sessions you decide whether this fits. Stopping is allowed, and we will say so out loud.
The first three
What they are
- 01
Step 1: The first session
Fifty minutes. We explain how we work and the limits of confidentiality, and you tell us as much as you want about what brought you to write.
- 02
Step 2: The second
We talk about what you would like to change, and whether EMDR, somatic work or neither seems right to start.
- 03
Step 3: The third
We look back on how this is going. You decide whether to continue, change course or stop.
What the first visit includes
A conversation, in the office or on video.
You will fill out intake forms on our portal before the first session, not in the room. If you pay without insurance, the written estimate comes first. The visit itself is conversation. There are no tests and no physical exam, and nothing is recorded.
What to expect
Fifty minutes
Forms on our portal, ahead of time
A written estimate first, if you pay without insurance

Questions
Questions about the first sessions
Can I bring my partner?
Yes, to the first session or any other, or you can come alone and bring them later. Partner sessions run 80 minutes.
What should I wear or bring?
Whatever is comfortable. Bring your insurance card if you have one, and a list of questions if you like.
What if I want to stop after one session?
You can. We would rather you told us than disappeared, but either is allowed.
Ready for a first session?
Write to us. You do not have to say why you are writing.
